Biao” — Contemporary Imaginations of Freedom, Strength, and Progress
January 11 – February 12, 2026
Exhibition Venue : Shanwukoukou

The inspiration for this exhibition stems from the curator’s childhood experiences with equestrian training. Though brief, these encounters left a lasting impression, fostering a deep affection for horses—their swift, wind-like gallop, flowing manes, and elegant postures; their poised, unwavering gaze when at rest, exuding restraint and dignity. These impressions formed early imaginings of freedom, strength, and forward motion, which over time evolved into a curatorial vision shaping this contemporary art exhibition, where the horse serves as a powerful metaphor.

“Biao” (For Gallop), curator Hakuso invited six contemporary artists—Su Hsiu-Hsien, Bai Tian YuzhuyaHakuta Yoshuya, Lin Yu-Ju, Ou Jing-Yun, Chen Shih-Hang, and Kuo Jun-You—to create original works inspired by the dynamic and free-spirited nature of horses. In addition, Hu Shian-Wen’s 2021 work responds to the theme, while selected pieces by Leung Siu-hay from the collection offer a historical perspective. Together, the exhibition presents eight distinct and compelling artistic viewpoints, capturing the enduring allure of the horse across time and imagination.
