「生漆」在臺灣可稱作天然漆、樹漆、大漆、うるし，是屬於東亞地區才有的技術與珍貴的塗料，其歷史背景久遠，可以追朔到新石器時代河姆渡文化出土的漆塗文物，漆器工藝在中國漢代時期發展鼎盛，日本、韓國、泰國、越南、緬甸等地，也都有其獨特的漆器文化，華美昂貴的技藝多為皇室貴族使用或祭祀禮器，直到現代，漆器文化還持續在亞洲地區運轉著。
漆畫創作是將在地傳統技藝發揮在畫作上，使用特殊材料如：金箔、珠母貝殼、寶石鑲嵌、金粉等，從畫板製作到繪畫完成製作期長達一年以上，尺幅更大花費更久時間，使漆畫有一定的品質，對於防偽與收藏保存相當有益處，也是當代繪畫發展的新興畫種。

"Raw lacquer" also known as natural lacquer, tree lacquer, Dà Qī, or urushi in Taiwan, is a precious material and technique unique to East Asia. Its history dates back to ancient times, with lacquered artifacts unearthed from the Neolithic Hemudu Culture. The craft of lacquerware reached its peak during the Han Dynasty in China, while Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar each developed their own distinctive lacquerware traditions. These exquisite and costly techniques were often reserved for royalty, nobility, or ritual ceremonial objects. Even today, lacquerware culture continues to thrive across Asia, maintaining its rich heritage and artistry.
Lacquer painting is a creative art form that incorporates traditional local craftsmanship into paintings, utilizing unique materials such as gold leaf, mother-of-pearl, gemstone inlays, and gold powder. From the construction of the painting board to the completion of the artwork, the production process spans over a year, and larger dimensions require even more time and effort. This meticulous process ensures the high quality of lacquer paintings, making them beneficial for anti-counterfeiting and preservation. As a result, they hold great value for collectors and represent an emerging genre in the evolution of contemporary painting.
